 Stack is proud to announce its success in the BeST Design Awards. The business interior specialists won Silver in the spatial category for the fit-out of legal eagles’ Hudson Gavin Martin’s Auckland offices in the Britomart Quarter. A new practice, with three partners focusing on technology and intellectual property, Hudson Gavin Martin asked Stack to create a non-traditional legal office environment with an open and approachable interior where clients would feel comfortable and welcomed. The 13-strong team wanted a modern-feeling interior where natural light and breathtaking views across Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour were utilised to maximum advantage. A key focus for Stack was to create a central café and lounge area to help break traditional models of interaction internally and encourage accessibility for the law firm’s valued clients. In short, Hudson Gavin Martin wanted a legal office which felt more like an advertising agency but retained the requirements of a top-flight legal practice. Partner Mark Gavin says their office, designed by Stack and award-winning branding consultant Alt Group (www.altgroup.net) is "fantastic." “That is the best single word to describe it,” says Mr Gavin. “We wanted an environment we could bring clients into so they could see the inner workings of the law firm rather than being isolated on a meeting room floor." “I knew it was working that way when I walked round the corner into the café and found a client showing a senior solicitor how to use the coffee machine. That told me the client felt relaxed and at home enough to do so.” He believes the modern and vibrant interior complements the “funky” Britomart Quarter in which the building is located. “We really didn’t want to be seen as a bunch of boring lawyers in a big tall office tower,” he says. ”Thanks to Stack and Alt Group, we have achieved the type of office we imagined.” The BeST Design Awards are a national award programme of the Designers Institute of New Zealand, recognising New Zealand’s best graphic, product and spatial design. This year the award attracted 575 entries. Stack directors Rose Whitley, Joseph Walden and David Gunn are thrilled with the achievement. “Given our success, we’re showing off and have attached some of the images that impressed the judges.
